Mounting intracutaneous pressure bursting forth
After millennia of suppuration
Torrents of pus flow endlessly
Cathartic excretion
Of ancient tissue rotten to the bone
Vast chasms bestrew infected flesh

Flesh gown mangled
Crudely draped over frail bones
This tattered dermal tapestry littered with wounds - familiar
Though their origin eludes me
I know their gifted pain is mocking
They haunt me as my sanity fails
I can’t recall
What caused these contusions?
Why am I so covered in lesions?
There must be meaning
Deeper, hidden, tucked away within
These abscesses must be opened
I must know the reason for my suffering
In delirium
I begin to claw at my wounds
Thrusting splintered fingernails, violently, piercing deep
Into distended boils
Hysterical subdermal combing
Stretching infected skin
Frenzied probing
Removing cysts for examination
Skin deeply welted by this psychotic excavation
Shredding
I lacerate
In hysteria
I mutilate
I know the answer lies somewhere within
These mocking wounds laughing agape

What have I done wrong?
What crime could fit this punishment?
Why is it that I can’t recall?
Why must I serve this sentence?
I may never know
Why I’m so compelled
To rip these wounds to shreds
But in this fever I must carry on
Relentless in my quest

Discovery
I’ve found within
The answers to my suffering
I lift (mangled) appendages
To drink from myself - cleansing sin
Archaic still pulsing
Lesions self inflicted years ago
As I approach enlightenment
I see my penance unobscured

Foul beads of corporal refuse upon my tongue
With each drop comes flooding memories
Of eons spent in agony
Each anamnesis more bitter than the last
How haunting it is to taste the seeping pus of ancient
Wounds
